- The big news this weekend has been the severe weather outbreaks across the South and the southeast. The event began in the middle of the week and continues to wreak devastation across the South.

Many communities are experiencing flooding, damaging winds, and even tornadoes, stretching from Texas all the way across the South and up to Ohio. Flooding is biblically seen as a form of God’s judgment (Genesis 7:11, Exodus 10:22).
Severe weather is also mentioned in prophecies about signs of the last days (Ezekiel 38:22, Daniel 12:1, Joel 2:31, Zechariah 14:8):
- Economic hardships
- Plagues like measles
- Earthquakes
- Greed
- Severe weather
The Bible constantly reminds us to pay attention to the signs of the times and live accordingly (Proverbs 2:8-9, Daniel 12:1-4, Luke 21:25-34). Despite what many conspiracy theorists believe, only God can control the weather and Use it for His Divine purpose (Leviticus 6:1-46, Psalm 147:8, Ecclesiastes 11:4-5, Joel 2 23, Matthew 16:2-3).
One of the interesting things about the weather is how God uses daylight to affect and control it. God uses the weather to glorify Himself and draw others to Himself. Extreme weather is also used to describe the Day of the Lord (Joel 2: 30-31, Revelation 6:12-44).
What Is a Day?
Days are a creation of God to help us track time, literally and spiritually. A day is defined in the dictionary as, “The time of the light between one night and the next, a specified time or date; age.”

It was God who created days and marked out history in the beginning (Genesis 1:1-5). However, God’s timetable and timing are much bigger than ours, the Bible tells us that a day with God is 1000 years with man (Psalm 90:4, 2 Peter 3:8).
We often forget God sees the bigger picture, from the beginning of time to the end of it. His understanding of greatness and power are different as night and day from ours.
The Bible has a lot to say about days and how we should spend them (Psalm 90:12, Ephesians 5:15-16, Colossians 4:5.) In this life, days and time are limited, that is why it is pointless to chase earthly greatness, power, and material things. They will not stand the test of time after this world ends (Matthew 6:20, Colossians 3:2, 1 Timothy 6:19, James 5:1-3).
All of the wealth and greatness this world possesses will not last after the world ends. The days of this world are numbered by God and one day He will end it (1 Corinthians 1:8; 5:5, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, 2 Peter 3:10-12, Revelation 21:1) the apostles remembered their Jewish education about days and their importance.
Yôm
The Torah and the Old Testament tell us how God created the days and marked off time (Genesis 1:1-5, 8:22, Exodus 20:8-11, Psalm 118:24, Ecclesiastes 5:18; 7:10). Only God knows how many days we each have in this life (Jeremiah 29:11).
The Hebrew word for day in the Old Testament is yôm and it can also mean, “Year, time, period, or lifetime,” depending on the context it is used in. The ancient world was wasting away each day and God was merciful and didn’t destroy His creation.
Judaism teaches that one day God’s divine judgment will finally come upon the world, this day is called Yôm ‘Ăḏōnāy (Isaiah 2:12; 7:18-25; 13:6-9, Ezekiel 13:5; 30:3, Joel 1:15, Obadiah, Zephaniah 1:7, 14, Zechariah 14:1, Malachi 4:5).
God sent His prophets to tell His people the warning signs of The Day the Lord so they could be prepared.
- The sun turns dark
- The moon turns to blood
- Great wars
- Famine
- Hardships like never before
- Extreme weather events
- God delivers the remnant of Israel
- God judges the world and His people
Jesus taught His followers and Disciples about the day of the Lord and God’s coming judgment (Matthew 7:1, 12: 36-37; 24:3-21; 25: 31-46, John 12:47-48.) Jesus taught His followers numerous parables to teach them to be prepared and ready for the Day of Judgment.

Jesus also warned His followers the day would come quickly but would last for some time like a woman in labor (Matthew 24:3-8). There will come a time when God cleanses the world (Matthew 24:35, 2 Peter 3:10-13, Revelation 21:1-4).
Eventually, God will also judge His people for their works and how they spent their days (Matthew 16:27, Romans 2:6-8, 2 Corinthians 5:10). God will pour out His judgment on the world that no man or government can stop or save.
Superman
In other news this week, Warner Bros. studio released an extended trailer for the new Superman reboot. I have already shared how I am a comic book fan and superhero fanatic.

As this world continues to spiral out of control, we all want someone to save the day. Even, Superman isn’t always able to save the day. He is famous for not interfering with human history in the comic books.
Ironically, both the MCU and DCU have storylines where entire universes collide or end completely, just like this world and heavens will. It isn’t fiction, but biblical that nothing in this world will survive the last days.
- Money
- Material things
- Earthly greatness
The good news is we don’t need an alien superhero to come to our rescue. Ever since the beginning, even after man sinned, God has been our only Savior. God is our only help and hope in the storms of this temporary life.
Shame on you, if you put your hope into the government or a crooked politician to save you in the last days that is idolatry! Our only hope is God on Yôm ‘Ăḏōnāy!
