Possible McCain VP pick praises Obama’s positive tone

Coming on the heels of a serious of meritless web ads from the McCain campaign, Tim Pawlenty, the Republican Governor of Minnesota and possible McCain VP pick, has praised the tone of Barack Obama. Here he is quoted by MSNBC:

“Say what you will about Barack Obama,” the Minnesota Republican told a conservative group, “people gravitate when you have something positive to say.” He added that McCain has been positive as well.

“People want to follow hopeful, optimistic, civil, decent leaders,” Pawlenty said in a speech to GOPAC, which helps recruit Republican candidates. “They don’t want to follow some negative, scornful person.”

Just a coincidence that Pawlenty issues such comments at the very moment the McCain campaign hits its stride with those negative “celebrity,” “the One,” and “dreamy” ads? Or is Pawlenty hinting that, should he be tapped for the VP slot, he would like to be part of a more positive campaign? Perhaps also of note, the buzz around Tom Ridge as McCain’s choice was augmented after Pawlenty’s comments. A coincidence?
