For those who don’t know we operate a fully functioning Voodoo house here in New York City. Several times during the year we hold workshops, feasts and events. This February 28th we will be holding a Maman Brigitte Feast and Voodoo workshop for all who are interested. Maman Brigitte is the Queen of the dead, she holds her secrets and her knowledge for all who are strong enough to seek them. This Sunday we will be feasting on some of Maman Brigitte’s favorite foods: Red Beans, Beet Salad, Voodoo Rice and much more. There will be singing, dancing, and altars to honor the beloved ancestors. If you would like to bring an offering to leave on the altar some acceptable ideas would be : oranges, flowers, cotton, rum, chocolate, money, and/or cigarettes. If you would like to bring something special from your own ancestors to place on the altar, that would also be welcome. The suggested donation for the feast is $10, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Voodoo Spiritual Temple to help them rebuild after their recent fire. The feast is scheduled to begin at 3 pm, and if you are interested please RSVP to [email protected] for directions and more information.
Sunday we will also be offering a workshop on Voodoo and Afro-Caribbean Paganism for those who are interested. The world of voodoo is a universe populated with sacred gods, spirit possessions, and natural grace. Despite media portrayals of zombies and wild abandon, the religion is actually a complex system of nature-inspired belief. This class will answer your questions, and introduce you to the voodoo gods of fire, love, lightning, and more. We will discuss simple and also advanced ways to connect with the Loa or deities, such as veve drawing, shrines, initiation and more. The fee for the class is $10, and it will begin at 1 pm. If you would like to attend please RSVP email to [email protected] for more information.
We hope to see you there !
