Contemplative Practice takes us to greener pastures. Faith Richardson/Photographer

Changing my perspective is no walk in the park. It takes inviting Commitment to tea and Self Discipline to counsel with Honesty and Confidence daily until true, good, healthy habits are formed.

Contemplative Practice sits with me regularly now and we often chat about each situation; the kicker is, we do it together in real-time. No more pushing re-play on the tape recorder in my head to create new scenarios of how I could have, should have, and would have.

Instead, Self-Awareness and I slow play real-time through the filter of Truth to analyze my reaction.

I often hug Feelings and high five Actions, but almost always send Productive Thinking to the grocery store with a self-indulgence list when Conflict comes knocking.

Today, with Contemplative Practice by my side, I invite Productive Thinking to come along on my therapy walks and let her talk it out with me. I’m getting to be reacquainted with my long-lost friend.

I love Contemplative Practice. She has become my confidant. Together, she and I have stopped situations that were heading for the battlefield and redirected them into greener pastures.
