Deliver Me From Temptation

Deliver Me From Temptation

In dismay, I looked at the grocery total I had run up at Trader Joe’s and said, “I only came in here for a few things.”

The checker responded, “Welcome to the number one impulse buy store in the nation.”

Yeah, no kidding.

How does anyone keep their heads above the financial waters this time of year? I’ve not had broadcast TV in over a year, but recently, thanks to a handy friend who purchased and installed an antenna, I can suddenly watch quite a few channels without the onerous cable fees.

I turned on a program, and within 20 minutes, turned it off, and haven’t watched one since.

The commercials just knocked me over. Their amplified sound, the constant movement as they bid for my attention, the incredible deals, the “I MUST BUY THIS FOR SOMEONE” impulse that followed.

Good grief.

How are you handling this? What happens to the children with this constant onslaught? Perhaps we can come up with some strategies that work.
