If you’re a listener of Snarky Faith, you’d know Pastor Greg Locke from our “Christian Crazy” segment on the show. His preaching style is best summarized as Yosemite Sam on an auctioneer’s stage fueled by book burnings, conspiracies, and end-times paranoia. He also sees himself as a modern-day prophet and exorcist. Simply put, he thinks he’s a prophetic demon slayer, but he’s more prosperity grifter and less Tanjiro Kamado.

So whether or not you’re familiar with the firebrand charlatan, let’s peek into his tent and see what he’s really selling in the name of the Lord.

Act 1: The Scene

Picture this: a dark, swampy night outside Nashville. Thousands gather under a revival tent, drawn not by the promise of free BBQ or country music but by the chance to witness demons cast out en masse. At the center of this spectacle is Pastor Greg Locke, strutting the stage in his paisley shirt, microphone in hand, ready to wage holy war on the invisible forces of evil.

Act 2: The Performance

Locke’s list of demonic offenders reads like a spiritualist’s shopping list: “Yoga… psychic hotlines… healing crystals… dream catchers.” With each named transgression, the crowd’s anticipation grows, until finally, a shriek pierces the night, followed by a chorus of howls. Chairs topple, arms flail, and a body collapses – the demons, it seems, are not going quietly.

Act 3: The Production

This is not your grandma’s revival meeting. Welcome to the age of Exorcism 2.0, where every possessed soul’s struggle is captured on film, ready for the next viral video. Locke Media ensures that every demonic confrontation is documented, edited, and packaged for maximum “wow” factor. Crutches thrown aside, tearful testimonies, and ecstatic deliverance – it’s all part of the show.

Act 4: The Merchandising

What’s a modern exorcism without some good old-fashioned merch? At the Locke Media events, you can snag a t-shirt that proudly proclaims you as a “Demon Slayer” or pick up a pocket-size vial of holy oil. And don’t forget to stop by the book signing table, where exorcists sign copies of their latest how-to guides on demonology.

Act 5: The Critique

While Locke and his Demon Slayers claim to liberate souls from spiritual bondage, they’re just capitalizing on people’s fears and vulnerabilities. From claims of curing video game addictions to battling lactose intolerance demons, the spectacle sometimes veers into the absurd. And yet, it’s this very absurdity that captivates – and critiques – the American religious landscape.

Act 6: The Backstory

Before Locke was casting out demons, he was a small-time troublemaker. He found Jesus at a Christian home for wayward youth and soon discovered his talent for fiery sermons. Over the years, he dabbled in social media, where his controversial takes on same-sex marriage, LGTQ rights, COVID-19 policies, and political conspiracies garnered a substantial following. His journey from local pastor to internet sensation is a testament to the power of controversy in building a platform. But behind the spectacle lies a history of exploiting fears and stoking division for personal gain.

Finale

In a country where half the population believes in demons, Pastor Greg Locke has found his niche. His brand of showmanship, coupled with old-time religion and modern media savvy, offers a uniquely American spectacle. So, as we navigate our own spiritual journeys, let’s remember: whether it’s healing crystals or holy oil, the real magic lies in the stories we tell and the beliefs we hold.

In the end, Pastor Locke’s revival tent is less about exorcising demons and more about exorcising boredom. With each demon named and each spirit expelled, the audience is reminded of the oldest trick in the book – selling salvation, one spectacle at a time.
