Patheos February 2023 Featured Writer Tom Rapsas 2024-11-21T14:36:18-07:00

Tom Rapsas has been writing for Patheos for over 10 years. Since starting with Patheos in 2012 Tom has written over 500 articles in his section titled Wake Up Call. He also has written for the Contemplative Journal and Elephant Journal. Tom is the author of the spiritual fable Thaddeus Squirrel and the book, Life Tweets. Tom is currently working on Wakeup Call the book and lives at the Maryland Eastern Shore with his wife and a small herd of cats.

Tom enjoys writing for Patheos because “I like the idea of being part of a large community of spiritual and religious writers.” Tom believes that “There are many paths to God, with no one religion or belief having a monopoly on our ability to connect with the Divine. I believe that all writers at Patheos have something of value to offer their readers. My goal is to write columns that genuinely stir the soul and awaken the divine spirit that lives within all of us, helping readers find the clues to living a rich and meaningful life.”

Tom offers up this advice for other Patheos writers; “Use a compelling headline. As writers, we often tend to fuss over the body copy in our stories–but it’s all for naught if the headline does not compel the reader to click the link to open the story. Come up with several options that capture the essence of your story and what makes it unique. Then, ask yourself–which headline would cause me to click on the link to learn more?” Also, he suggests, “Get out of your comfort zone. Sometimes the most interesting stories come from exploring new topics or looking at an issue from another person’s point of view.”
