Paradigms – The Way We Think About Charity is Dead Wrong
View the video HERE
The TED Talk by Dan Pallotta, with the title above, calls out the double standards that drive our broken relationships with charities. He makes some great points about paradigms that limit and often paralyze charities.
James Allen, in his book, As A Man Thinketh* says that we don’t attract what we need, we attract what we are. We give energy to what we think about. We, as leaders, create a scarcity in the thinking of leaders in the organization. Pallotta’s point is that leaders can just as well inspire abundance thinking.
Please consider the following questions or add some of your own:
- Why don’t charities pay reasonable salaries for top talent who could change the economic future of the organization?
- How does your organization measure overhead? Does 100% overhead indicate that 100% of the income is used for the mission of the organization?
- Can we justify spending money on marketing? Why?
- Is this scarcity thinking a precursor to leader burnout? Why?
