Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies is busy ordering everyone not to have fear over this. Here are her words on why you should not have fear, dumb anecdotal ideas.

I think back to a couple of incidents when raising my children. Back in those days there were no vaccinations for every childhood disease that came along. When I was a child, we all got the measles, the chicken pox, and mumps, etc. It would go through the family and then we all be fine, set for life. The same happened with my children. They all got each of the diseases as it came around the neighborhood or city. We got through it and once again they were set for life.

I remember one time I heard that the measles (or one of them was going around) and I got into a state of fear (I think I may have been pregnant, and fear came upon me!). Because I got into this state of fear, what I feared came upon me, and all the children came down with “the dreaded lurgi.”

Another time, I truly don’t know how it happened, but I didn’t even know this particular epidemic was going around. I found out later that the children of all the families around had been sick. Because I didn’t know, I didn’t fear and merrily went about my daily life. And not one of the children came down with the epidemic.

This is not how infectious diseases work. Not at all! Ignorance is not bliss. Not knowing will not stop you from contracting an illness. Infectious illnesses are not stopped in their spread by you not knowing about them or acknowledging them. This COVID 19 is more of a danger than many childhood illnesses.

“The dreaded lurgi” is a term used by a British satirical group The Goons starring Spike Milligan back in 1954 to refer to some fictitious outbreak of a cold or flu. Easily caught, easily recovered from. COVID 19 is not lurgi.

But Nancy’s thinking of expose everyone and it will be no worse than a cold is what is sweeping through the Republican party right now. Our own president Donald Trump briefly mentioned on Monday that he wanted to reopen places within a few weeks spiraled yesterday into his insistence that churches will be filled with happy, grateful, people on Easter Sunday, a mere 3 and 1/2 weeks away.

President Trump on Tuesday said he hopes the nation’s dramatic response to the coronavirus pandemic will be scaled back within weeks to revive the economy and pack churches by Easter Sunday — an aspiration that was largely panned by public health experts and many elected leaders, including Republicans.

He repeated this pie in the sky fantasy again and again and again during the daily press conference, and could clearly be seen embracing another awful thing, the insistence by Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and others, that the elderly and ill dying off would not be a bad thing, that the elderly and the ill would gladly trade their lives for the restarting of the economic engine of America, the stock exchange.

“No one reached out to me and said, ‘As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?’ And if that is the exchange, I’m all in,” Patrick told Fox News.

He added, “My messages is that let’s get back to work, let’s get back to living. Let’s be smart about it and those of us who are 70+, we’ll take care of ourselves. But don’t sacrifice the country.”

Speak for yourself, sucker, but not for the rest of us. Go on with your bad self and expose away. Except, that by doing so he’s not just exposing himself but everyone he encounters, every single person in his orbit.

This is particularly disgusting coming from a party that condemned Italy for stopping treatment of their elderly population, that made enormous noise with fake claims that Democrats would have ‘Death Panels’ if universal health care passed, and would do anything to stop an abortion by claiming to be all about life. How can you be pro life and turn around and say the elderly and the ill dying wouldn’t be so bad after all because it would shore up the stock market?

As I write this the Dow Jones Industrial Average is having another crazy up and down volatile day. Not even the news that the White House and Senate finally came to an agreement on the 2 Trillion dollar Stimulus package is shoring this thing up like projected.

We need to put our people first, no matter what happens in big business and small business. If you kill off the population there will not be the consumers needed to create a market enough to bounce back from this. What Trump says below about the American people may be true, but sheltering in place, more testing and flattening the curve is more important than Boeing or Princess Cruises staying financially healthy for their stockholders.

“Our people are full of vim and vigor and energy. They don’t want to be locked into a house or an apartment or some space,” Trump said. “It’s not for our country, and we are not built that way.”

People over money.

Besides, some of these big businesses, I’m looking at you cruise lines, aren’t even U.S. taxpayers. Did you know that all the big cruise lines register their boats through places like Malta and Liberia to avoid U.S. taxes? They also hire non U.S. citizens so that they do not have to pay standard wages, give any sort of benefits, or even simply provide a safe working environment.

Rant over. I am going outside for the day as far away from social media and the television as I can get in my limited sphere. I’m getting disgusted with the powers that be. It’s getting harder and harder not to pull out voodoo dolls and sharp pins.
