I always thought it would be one of the younger (possibly gayer) Duggar boys, or perhaps Jinger Duggar Vuolo that would write a tell-all book on life growing up in the Duggar compound tin mansion in Springdale, Arkansas. But it seems that person poised to expose the grand con that is Jim Bob Duggar et al might just be an in-law, Jill Duggar Dillardβs husband Derick. Derick is out of law school at the moment because of inclement weather, and when Derick is at loose ends he tweets. And heβs tweeting. Itβs not looking good for Jim Bobβs reputation.
What is Derick tweeting about? Contract negotiations with TLC, Jim Bobβs role in that and the fact that neither him or Jill was paid.
Would love to see a copy of that contract because I cannot imagine that it is even remotely legal for Jim Bob to sign up everyone else without them signing off on it. Very likely Jim Bob has extracted a signature of all adult Duggars and in-laws on a power of attorney giving him the right to deal with TLC.
Plus reality television contracts are notoriously controlling with all sorts of odd phrasing and requirements. You basically sign away your life and your rights to be portrayed any way the production wishes to show you.
Years ago I was approached to do one of those spouse trade shows when I first started writing for NLQ. I took one look at the contract and said no. You were given money in exchange for allowing them to do what they wanted. I know someone that recently did an episode of International Househunters, and the contract was much the same. For bonus points they didnβt even buy the place that it shows they bought. The entire show was faked.
Why is TLC only dealing with Jim Bob instead of having individual contracts with all the adult members of the family? This sounds like Jim Bob is doling out the money earned from the show based on a whim. Someone not toe-ing the party line (Hello Derick!) gets zilch. But someone promoting the family brand gets a costly relocation to notoriously expensive Los Angeles, California and swan around taking selfies at coffee shops (Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo)
βLawyer-upβ is this why Derick is pursuing a law degree to take on his father in law and TLC? Wondering if he has been rejected by a pile of local lawyers on the possibilities of suing TLC and his father in law?
All of Derickβs complaining about money is disturbing because it paints Jim Bob in the same awful light as uber controlling, bad, self-appointed patriarchs Larry Solomon and Vaughn Ohlman. We already knew that Jim Bob was controlling, but this is just more proof of the level of unhealthy control going on.
It also brings into question Derickβs own relationship with his poor wife Jill. Jill seems so desperate for any small scrap of time, attention and affection from Derick every single day. Posting over and over again online about it. She seems to have no life but waiting around for him. Is it possible that part of Derickβs decision to marry Jill was that he thought heβd get a portion of the reality television show money?
How did Derick and Jill pay for this new house without TLC money? Heβs in law school and neither of them hold jobs. They do not give out mortgages to people with no income or resources.
Derick is spilling some tea here, confirming what most of us already thought about Jim Bob. Interesting.
