Writing what amounts to a short biography is easier said than done! What needs saying? What is essential in order to understand me, my life, and my purpose? First, I might say that I am a highly eclectic person. I am at home in a group or alone, I enjoy deep theological thought and those who think that way as well as those who are nontheological and averse to the things of God. I love skeptics (I am one), and those who have seemingly easy (yet strong) faith. I love all types of music, reading, art, sports and other various forms of culture. Born a Yankee and raised a Southern boy from North Carolina.
I am a husband to Casey, the love of my life. We’ve been married for almost 11 years. We have been blessed with 6 amazing kids (Zoe 6, Jack 5, Ezra 4, Evie 3, Abel 2, and Asher Daniel, who is with Jesus and waiting for the rest of us). The man I am is thoroughly shaped by the husband and Father I get to be and by the influences of my wife and kids. Casey inspires me, challenges me, and constantly leaves me in awe at her unending abilities. My children remind me of the Gospel daily. Each of them has a unique story, but a common ordaining to be in our family! They remind me of the adoption of the father and keep me tethered to the Gospel. I exist, in part to fulfill my God given purpose to them.
I am a learner and a lover of discovery. I enjoy philosophy, faith, culture, politics and the intersection of all these things. My training is in Theology and Philosophy ad I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Leadership and Christian Ministry. I love conversation, narrative, listening and the willingness of others to listen well. Nuance requires precision and a lack of generalization. I am a nuanced person and believe many of our questions will require nuance in order to answer.
The best of me is Christ in me! I strive daily to be a reflection of the grace and mercy given to me. I desire that all may know God is good, He exists, he is involved, and the light is still advancing toward a kingdom that is and is to come. I choose to do this in community. I love the church even though she frustrates me! However, I see in her the historic foundation of the truth and that through her truth given to us by the apostles receives a protection and guide to where we are today. I love the culture God has put me in, and I want to be a well- postured missionary to it.
