My Favorite Christian (Blogger)

My Favorite Christian (Blogger) 2011-11-01T15:07:10-07:00

I’m a Zen Buddhist and a Unitarian Universalist. For me, it’s peanut butter and jelly. Strawberry, thanks for asking.

But, my natal lineage is Christianity, and I’ve long sense gotten over any resentments.

I don’t believe in a conscious deity in charge of this mess (And, if such existed, it probably shouldn’t be called God…), I’m bored too easily to stick with the single pathway of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures (although I do believe they contain everything necessary to salvation), and while I admire liturgy enough to genuinely appreciate a Sunday at King’s Chapel, I don’t find a steady diet of the Prayerbook appealing.

That said, and with those caveats, I can, most days, in addition to Zen Buddhist and Unitarian Universalist call myself a Christian, at least of the cultural sort.

And among the lovely cloud of witnesses I certainly have my favorites.

For institutions, I like Christian UUs, at least for the most part (check out the King’s Chapel link, he says!), Quakers, at least the unprogrammed Meeting Quakers, and Episcopalians, at least the liberal wing…

Of course there are the individual saints themselves…

Who can’t love Francis?

Of course, I think of course, my all time favorite Christian has to be Thomas Merton.

Although I’ll also always have a soft spot in my heart for Dorothy Day.

Probably the ones I have the closest affinities to would be Patrick Hawk, Ruben Habito, Robert Kennedy & Elaine MacInnis.

But, and, actually the point of this blog posting is a pointer to another blog:

These days, my favorite Christian blogger is probably Carl McColman.

I suggest checking him out. Very, very interesting guy…
