Update on Sky, the little baby we were praying for March 4, 2017

Her Mom writes:

Sky was moved out of the icu last night. Doctors and nurses were thrilled with her progress. Sky was pretty “drugged” for a while but quickly started getting back to herself. She began grabbing for her toys, smiling and then progressed to drinking water from a straw to eating jello. From last night to now, she has no diet restrictions, is off most monitors, was up playing, eating pancakes, talking and acting like herself. She gets uncomfortable when her pain meds wear off, but quickly settles after. We are expected to go home today!! Just waiting on final culture results. They have determined it was a complex febrile seizure (meaning caused from spike in fever) it was complex because it was so long of a seizure (over an hour) and seizure meds are most likely what made her stop breathing. Followed by an unsuccessful intubation, (her tube was not in lungs, but her stomach so her belly began to fill with air and that’s when her oxygen dropped to 30 turning her blue) after 3 intubations and sedation she was monitored closely on ventilator and had multiple tests run. She was put on an antibiotic and antiviral and steroid for precautions. Her throat was so swollen from the trauma of multiple intubations which put her at risk for an unsuccessful extubation. Thanks to all your prayers, the extubation was a success and she is expected to make a full recovery. She will be sent home with rescue meds to be on the safe side. Again thank you all for taking the time to reach out and offer support, it was a great way to keep us “distracted” and positive through this whole experience. Sky is one lucky girl to have so many that love her!
