Yin an Yang

In a culture drunk on false hope, Christians have to be killjoys and remind people that there will be a reckoning and there is no hope–none–in this world apart from Christ.

When the reckoning comes and people start to get frightened, Christians have to remind people that they do not have the luxury of giving up and wallowing in self-pity and despair, because there is still hope, because Christ isn’t going anywhere. So Fr. Schall’s words are a tonic as we watch the Great Crash unfold:

“Valour” is the determination not to be defeated by the sorrows of our lot. They too have become redemptive. “Valour” does not just let the “gathering dark” happen, at least not without a fight, not without hope.
