Tonight at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, former U.S. President Donald J. Trump became the Republican nominee for president again in preparation for the presidential election in November. To project himself as manly and full of vigor following his near assassination last week, when a sniper’s bullet struck his right ear causing damage, Mr. Trump was preceded at the podium by speeches delivered from professional wrestling entertainer Hulk Hogan and marshal arts executive Dana White.
In Trump’s speech tonight, he continued his constant rant accusing current U.S. President Joe Biden of “destroying the country.” But he took one giant step beyond that by warning that if Biden wins the election as the Democratic nominee (their convention is next week), Biden will usher in “World War Three.”
During the five years of Trump’s first presidential election campaign and four-year presidency, I’m now embarrassed to admit that I posted about him here on my blog over 300 times. I did it because I was so alarmed at what I believed was the danger that he brings to our country as president. Well, he was indicted by the House an unprecedented two times and is now under indictment for alleged criminal acts in four legal cases, which could send him to prison. And there is now a consensus among leading historians of U.S. presidents that Donald J. Trump was the worst president in the 248-year history of this country.
After Trump’s presidency, I put together 200 of those Trump posts to form a book entitled Bible Predicts Trump Fall. I would say this title already has proved true and that it is just a matter of how much more this guy might fall. One of the points I make in the book has to do with something Jesus taught and applying it to Trump’s declaration and crowd chants at his political rallies about Hilary Clinton, saying “Lock her up.” How does that relate to Jesus?
Jesus taught in his Sermon on Mount, “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get” (Matthew 7.1-2 NRSV). Jesus then went on to explain that hypocrites should not be judging others because it might come back to bite them. That is what alarms me about Trump. He is about the last American politician who should have been criticizing Ms. Clinton for harshly, especially since her misuse of a server for emails, of which the government proved she was innocent, was such a slight infraction. Yet Trump and MAGA crowd yelled, “Lock her up.” Trump now faces the real possibility of him being locked up.
I sure hope the same thing doesn’t happen about Trump alleging that if Joe Biden wins the November election, he will start World War Three. That actually worries me about Trump if he becomes president again. How about you?
