Prince Harry refuses to wade into the media-made Obama-Trump guest list controversy 2017-12-28T07:33:30-06:00

Prince Harry smartly side-stepped a media-made controversy over the upcoming nuptial guest list.

Within days of his engagement to Meghan Merkle, the media created a completely fictitious controversy: Would former President Obama be invited? And if he was invited, would Trump be enraged, thus creating an international diplomatic crisis over a wedding guest list?

Prince Harry has a well-established friendship with former President Obama and counts the Obama family friends.

In reporting that appears to have originated in the UK Sun, Prince Harry expressed his desire to invite the Obamas to his wedding.

The only context in which Trump appears is the Sun’s speculation that Trump might get his knickers in a twist over an Obama invite.

“The property billionaire does not hide his loathing of Mr Obama and is expected to be enraged if his predecessor gets the coveted call up when he won’t,” reported the Sun.

After the story had bounced around the four corners of the internet, the hot takes started rolling in, my favorite of which was published by CNN, encouraging the Royal Family to snub President Trump because of the “refugee ban” (their terminology, not mine), among several other silly, self-aggrandizing reasons.

Wednesday, Prince Harry was asked about Invitegate during a radio interview. He didn’t want to “ruin that surprise” by disclosing who would be invited and declined to comment further.

Watch a portion of his interview here:

Of all the things to fainting over a wedding guest list that does not yet exist has to be a new low, even for our media.
