To the one who takes the children: a prayer

To the one who takes the children: a prayer

Jesus, when You told the children to come to You, I think You also knew that their tired mothers might need a little rest in their day.

When You brought the children to You, You were telling their mamas, Don’t worry, I’ve got them. They’re mine.

Could we ask for a better caregiver?

In our fear, our doubts, we hope for the best.

We pray for better outcomes, less ache, more strength, growing trust.

We pray for it all, and yet, here we are, our hands in the dirt and knees drenched in spilled milk, digging play dough chunks out of the white carpet.

We ask for stillness in the chaos.

We ask for guidance through the murky, treacherous waters, but faith to walk on them if You ask us to.

So let me look at the picture of You a little longer, to remember who You are and all that You do for the children and those who love them. Hold onto them a little bit longer, and hold onto us longer, still.

In Your kingdom, they are brought into the fold. Let us be a part of that kingdom.

Amen.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
