Jesus Smokes Weed: Rallying for Marijuana

*Prepared remarks for the DFW Marijuana March 2018 / Delivered May 12, 2018

Good afternoon. It is interesting for me to find myself amongst you. I don’t smoke. However, I do know how to recognize injustice. I am a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have committed myself to fighting for the rights of all. While I don’t know if Jesus and the disciples smoked or not. However, I do know that Jesus is standing here smoking with you. Jesus is smoking with those who smoke to lift their spirits. Jesus is smoking with those who smoke to lift their health. Jesus is even smoking with those seeking to lift their mind. Jesus is in the lifting business. Those who are not…are peddlers of bullshit…not followers of Jesus. Surely the center of the message of Jesus is to love your neighbor as you love yourself… How can you love your neighbor as yourself and stand aside while people are given exorbitant sentences for smoking marijuana? How can you love your neighbor as yourself and stand aside as persons of color are disproportionately targeted and given high sentences? How can you love your neighbor as yourself and withhold medical marijuana from the sick? How can you love your neighbor as yourself and participate in the removal of children from families because the parents smoke marijuana? The answer to these questions and many more are you can’t. How can you love your neighbor as yourself? By granted them unfettered access to a beautiful creation of God…marijuana. I want you to know that I stand with you. I encourage anyone who has a soul to join me. Together, we will win. May God damn all that stands in our way. Jesus smokes weed.
