The Business of Doing New Things

The Business of Doing New Things

He is in the business of doing new things.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5.17

This verse was impressed on my heart the night my second born gave his heart to Jesus. He was at a young age but he understood the Gospel. He just hadn’t committed his life yet.

On a Sunday night at service he said, “This is the night I’m going to get saved.” He was sitting on the row with his mom, older brother, and me. His Grandma was sitting 1 row in front. His Grandpa was the Pastor so he was on the platform.

When the altar call was given at the end of service, he got up and headed for the front with sheer determination. Grandma and I went with him and helped pray him through.

When we got back to the pew I thought of 2 Corinthians 5.17, so I shared it with him that night. He needed some old things to pass away and he needed all things to become new.

Later Dad said in all of his years of ministry he had never seen a child change so much, and so instantly, as my second son.

I’m Not Who I Was

That thing that the Lord does in us is not a repair. It’s not a restoration. He is not refurbishing us. He’s not doing the best he can on us with what He has to work with.

He is making us new. He is in the business of doing new things. Isaiah foresaw this aspect of salvation.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43.18-19
