i. Advent research

I have a couple Theologians I usually bounce important new concepts off of like the following. From time to time we approach a common Theological ideal from a completely new angle.

I’ve been sending them some of my Advent research this year…

It’s fairly difficult to find citations for some of this brilliant work, so I’ll just have to plagiarize for now. Hope you don’t mind.

ii. Christmas posts

Rare meteor shower last week

When I was in Traverse City, this prestigious building was in need of a new owner. It is a beautiful structure on Front Street, one of the historic areas of town. I was glad a company bought it with the financial backing to keep it in good order and a plan to make it a thriving part of Traverse City for years to come.

iii. tidings from Asbury

The Christmas story continues to fascinate me even after all these years. It’s interesting to me that the men in the story are silent. Zechariah can’t speak. Joseph doesn’t. All the focus on words is on those delivered by Mary (her encounter with the angel, the song she sings in response to Elizabeth, the beautiful Magnificat) and Elizabeth (her blessing upon seeing Mary).

Maybe, just maybe, Christmas is a time when we males, as the often dominant voices, need to spend more time in silent contemplation as we hear other voices proclaim the good news.

the Asbury annual

Every year, Asbury Theological Seminary posts a video of staff and faculty signing holiday hymns, usually topped off with a Holiday thought from the President. It never disappoints. This year’s video is only 3 minutes.
