Kathi, our most wonderful, lovely, kind, and talented au pair returns to Costa Rica tomorrow. Dealt with sad kids, packing, and a party today.
Here are some random snippets from the day:
1 – I read in Sissy’s history book tonight that the Enlightenment brought an end to irrational religious thought and ushered in our current era, which is ruled by reason. Wow, I think someone should tell the people in Washington about this.
2 – Zach nearly threw a fit because I had to pull him out of soccer practice early to attend a party for Kathi. When I asked him why he thought it was okay to talk to me like he was, he replied, “Because I’m upset and it make me feel better.”
“Believe me, buddy, no one understands that better than I do. But do we really want to live in a family where people handle their stress by taking it out on other people?”
“No, but I’m just soooooooo mad at you.”
“You mean that your mad at me, even though I did the right thing, because things didn’t go the way you wanted them to?”
“Yup.”
The apple, the tree. You know the rest.
3. We let the boys order soda at Kathi’s party. Out came a giant glass of Coke, at which point Ezra observed, “We are livin’ the dream now, baby!”
Yes, we are. Yes, we are.
