Getting Inside Their Heads

Getting Inside Their Heads

My kids say the most random things.  Sometimes I can figure out what the heck they are trying to say.  Like this, from this morning:

Tara: We’re gonna be several minutes late.
Ezra: How many is several.
Zach: Twelve.
Ezra: No, Zach, a dozen is twelve.
Zach: Oh, yeah. Right, right.
Tara: Several is three or four.
Zach: Well then why is Turkey four.
Tara (in her head): What?  What could that mean?  Think, Tara.  It must mean something.  Ooooh.  I got it!
Tara (out loud): Oh, a turkey.  A turkey is three strikes.  But only in bowling.

Other times, I have no idea where an idea came from.  Like this, from this afternoon:

Ezra (while standing on his head in the living room): Mom, I want to show you a very good technique that they could use on fairies if they were going on a long, long, long trip across the ocean.  They could put a solar panel on it so it could go all the way around the world.

And then, without waiting for a reply, he turned around and walked out of the room.

Whether I figure out what they are saying or not, one of the best things about homeschooling is being around to hear more of what is going on inside their busy brains.
