Giving God Your Best

Giving God Your Best

There’s a promise in Proverbs that says when we give God our best, he will bless us beyond measure. I believe this verse is absolutely true and that it applies to more than just our finances. Here’s the verse:

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.

We honor God when we give Him the best of what we produce. This includes our finances, time, devotion, and even our attitude. But what about when we fail to give God our best?

Giving God the Scraps

I’ll admit – I’ve given scraps to God at times. Scraps of time, effort, attention, and money. It’s easy to give the day to day activities more attention than they deserve, and then give what’s left to God. Sometimes we just need a reminder to refocus our attention on the things that matter. Consider this verse in Proverbs as a reminder!

Give Others Our Best and Bless God

It’s amazing that God will bless us when we give him our best – but did you realize that it blesses him when we give our best to others? It’s true – just look at the Parable of the Lamp found in the book of Matthew:

Parable of the Lamp | Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Don’t forget to give your best to others and to give the honor to God. Jesus tells us that when we do this, our good deeds will ‘shine’ and will encourage others to give praise to God.

Just a little encouragement for the week!
