Wearing Pink on April 9 Shows God’s Love

Wearing Pink on April 9 Shows God’s Love 2025-04-09T15:15:54-04:00

The International Day of Pink is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a day to live out the call to love our neighbors, lift up the brokenhearted, and protect the vulnerable. Celebrated on April 9, 2025, this global movement encourages us to stand against bullying, homophobia, and transphobia. By wearing pink, we express love, inclusion, and the dignity every person deserves.

“Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV) reminds us that even our smallest actions can reflect the heart of Christ.

This special day began with two students in Nova Scotia who took a stand when they saw injustice. After witnessing a peer bullied for wearing pink, they showed up the next day with 50 pink shirts. Their compassion sparked a movement. Their small act now inspires millions.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Proverbs 31:8 NIV) encourages us to follow their example and become voices of hope.

Why the Color Pink Means More on April 9

Pink has long symbolized kindness, but on April 9, it represents strength. It shows unity in the face of cruelty and courage in the face of discrimination. Wearing pink isn’t just a style choice. It’s a visible stand for justice and love.

When we wear pink, we help create environments where everyone feels safe and valued. It’s about showing up for others the way we’d want them to show up for us.

The 2025 Theme: Honoring Re-Emergence

This year’s theme, “Re-Emergence,” honors past and present 2SLGBTQIA+ leaders and allies. Their courage has carved paths toward justice. Schools, churches, and communities are holding events, sharing stories, and reflecting on how far we’ve come and where we still need to go.

These stories of bravery echo God’s call to justice. “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed” (Isaiah 1:17) gives us direction and hope.
