Kind: A Letter to West Franklin

Kind: A Letter to West Franklin

West Franklin Family,

There is a phrase from Titus 3 that I haven’t been able to shake. A word, really, rather than a phrase. I haven’t been able to shake it because I haven’t really really wanted to.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared...” (Titus 3:4)

Isn’t it absolutely breathtaking that our God is kind? Seriously. Think about this with me. God is kind toward you.

  • His thoughts toward you – right now – are kind.
  • His tone towards you – right now – is kind.
  • He speaks to you – if you will listen, right now – with kind words.
  • His affection towards you – right now – is kind.
  • Everything God does – because it is who He is – is done with kindness.

In the language of the New Testament, the word kindness can also mean goodness. My God. Your God. Our God is kind and good to us.

I’m not sure who needs this today, but someone in our church family needs to marinate in the reality that the God of the Bible, the God of the universe, is kind. Make sure, when you think about God’s heart toward you today, you believe the truth: He is kind toward you. He’s not waiting for you to do something good in order to be kind toward you. He is kind right now.

I’m not sure who needs this today, but someone in our church family needs to allow the kindness of God overflow onto someone in their life. Maybe in your home? I don’t know. A way we demonstrate we are allowing God’s kindness to flood us is by letting it slosh onto others around us.

I’m not sure who needs this today, but someone in our church family needs to remember that God’s children are kind. Not cruel. Not hateful. Not demeaning. Not angry. Kind. Good. Toward all people, not just toward those who are “like” us. If your behavior and words cannot be described as kind, there is a major attribute from God you have yet to experience.

I’m not sure who needs this today, but someone in our church family needs to receive kindness from someone who is trying to give it.

That’s it for today.

Loving God’s Kindness,

Pastor Matt
