Here are seven Bible verses about virginity.
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”
This verse was written to the Jews of the day, as was the Gospel of Matthew and Matthew quotes Isaiah 7:14 which says almost the exact same thing. Matthew was telling his Jewish readers that Jesus is the fulfillment of all of the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah and that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a virgin when she was conceived by the Spirit of God. Matthew was trying to explain that Isaiah 7:14 has been fulfilled.
Job 31:1 “I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?”
I love what Job said; he made a covenant with his eyes for the sake of obeying God so that he wouldn’t lust after her in his own heart, thereby committing adultery with her in his heart (Matt 5:27-3). Jesus shows that we can sin without anyone seeing any exterior evidence of it but God knows all of our thoughts, desires, intents, and motives (Heb 4:12-13). It seems that Job already knew “that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matt 5:28).
Revelation 14:4-5 “It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.”
In the Apostle John’s being caught up in the Sprit or possibly taken up by God the Holy Spirit (Rev 1:10) he saw that “they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth” (Rev 14:3). The redeemed are those who are considered in God’s eyes as virgins because of Jesus’ imputation of His sinless-ness (2nd Cor 5:21). Those who “have been redeemed” (or virgins) “follow the Lamb wherever he goes” and by being called virgins, God sees them as blameless.
Second Corinthians 11”2 “For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.”
Paul is also associating virginity with Christianity because he wants to present a spotless bride to Christ; the Spotless Lamb of God Who died for His spotted bride. He Who is without blemish died for the blemished ones. Jesus, as the Undefiled One, untouched by sin, died for defiled human beings and truly untouchable ones.
Amos 5:2 “Fallen, no more to rise, is the virgin Israel; forsaken on her land, with none to raise her up.”
God frequently called Israel a virgin but not because they were anywhere near perfect. It seemed that Israel would live in an unbroken circle. They would prosper, then they’d get lax about the laws of God because they had all they needed, then they would be taken into captivity and only then would they repent and be released. It wasn’t long before the whole vicious cycle started again. Not every Christian can handle prosperity, so what does this say about the unsaved prosperous?
First Corinthians 7:8 “To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am.”
The word Paul uses for “unmarried” in the Greek language (“agamos”) is considered “virgin” so Paul is actually writing to the virgins and widows. Paul is not advocating celibacy or condemning marriage. He is just tell those who are unmarried, including the widows, that its’ better that they remain singe. Why? Paul writes that her “interests are divided” since “the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit [however] the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband” (1st Cor 7:34). Paul asked, “Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that” (1st Cor 7:27-28) so Paul asks, “Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife” (1st Cor 7:27).
Esther 2:17 “The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.”
Queen Esther saved her people by intervening on their behalf before the king. Anyone who presented themselves before the king could suddenly be put to death if the king’s scepter was not raised or if they had not been invited to enter the king’s presence. Mordecai told Queen Esther about the plot to exterminate all of the Jews in the kingdom and told Esther “who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:14b-16). And so it was with fear and trepidation that Queen Esther came before the king and the Jews were sparred.
Conclusion
If you are without Christ, you are without mercy on the Day of Judgment. You need someone Who can take your punishment for you. You can’t do anything to save yourself. All you can do is to repent and believe, which is what Jesus said the gospel was all about (Mark 1:15). Today, if you are willing to humble yourselves, then repent and trust in Christ and you will be saved. If not, your future has already been written (Rev 20:12-15; 21:8).
