Top 6 Bible Verses About God Being With You

Here are my top six Bible verses about God being with the believer in Jesus Christ.

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

It might seem strange that God would command Joshua and Israel to be strong and courageous. Perhaps they were feeling a bit lost after losing the only leader that they had ever known in Moses. When we lose a loved one, we feel lost for a time and that’s perfectly normal so this may be the reason that God commanded them to be courageous and strong. He also command them to not be frightened or dismayed after Moses’ death because “the Lord your God is with you” meaning that it was God that went with them in the first place and not just Moses. You can rest in the fact that “God is with you wherever you go.” That should strengthen your resolve, encourage your mind, and calm your fears.

Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus has just commissioned the disciples to go into all the world to make disciple of all nations (Matt 28:19), which included teaching them to observe what Jesus commanded the disciples but the comforting thing for them to know was Jesus telling them, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Did they really hear what He just said? He is with them; always! He is with them, not “will be” with them and He would be with them till the very end. Believers can know that He’ll be with them too, always, till the end of the ages come or when they pass from this world to the next after death.

Revelation 21:3 “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.”

The Apostle John tells us that Christians “will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads” (Rev 22:4) and God will personally “wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Rev 21:4), however the greatest part about the New Jerusalem, where heaven comes down, is that “God himself will be with” us. Can you even imagine that moment; face to face with God?

Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

This is one of the most well-known chapters in the entire Bible. The 23rd Psalm contains beautifully poetic and symbolic language of David’s passages through life’s valleys toward the final destination of the kingdom of heaven. God never promises to keep us out of the valleys or to take us over the valleys but He does promise to go with us through them. No wonder the Great Shepherd’s staff and rod comforted him. They should comfort us too. God never promised to keep Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego out of the fiery furnace but He did go with them through the fire…and delivered them!

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

The context of this writing of Zephaniah’s is about the joy of the restoration of Israel by God (Zeph 3:14-19) but there is certainly some application for the believer because Jesus also promised to never leave us and never forsake us (Heb 13:5) and to dwell with us if we are abiding in Him (John 15:1-10). If we do abide in Him, our joy can be full (John 15:11)! God’s love should serve to quite us because we can rest in Him for He is the “mighty one who will save” and if that were not amazing enough, He will rejoice over us with gladness after repentance and faith. As for Him exulting over us “with loud singing” I cannot even fathom the sound of that!

Joshua 1:5 “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.”

This might be my favorite of the six Bible verses on God being with you. This verse has a past, present, and future course of Israel in it; “Just as I was with Moses,” “so I will be with you,” and “I will not leave you or forsake you.” God was with Israel when He worked through Moses (the past); God will be with them now that Moses’ is gone (the present); and God will never leave them or forsake them (the future). That is a promise found throughout Scripture for those who are God’s very own.

Conclusion

If you’ve had a time in your life where you forsook your sins and turned away from them (repented) and placed your trust in the Savior, then you are born again and moving toward the eternal kingdom. If you’re a believer in Jesus Christ then surely God was with you in the past, He is with you now, and He will always be with you and never leave you or forsake you, even though you (or I) might forsake Him for a time.
