Top 7 Bible Verses For Those That Have Been Abused

Here are 7 Bible verses for all those that have been abused at one time or another.

Psalm 11:5 “The LORD tries the righteous: but the wicked and him that loves violence his soul hates.”

The first part of this verse at first doesn’t seem to fit the context of the Lord hating violence but the Hebrew word for “tries” is “bachan” and simply means “to examine, try,” or “to prove” so you could read the first part of this like this; “The Lord examines or proves the righteous” but the second part of this verse needs no help in explaining it because truly the wicked person and the one who loves violence is hated by God. God hates their actions in particular and especially someone who actually loves violence. Those who love violence seem to be growing in this day and age as violence is everywhere you look; on TV, in the movies, in the media, in video games and certainly it’s widespread throughout society today.

Proverbs 4:17 “Evil and violence are their food and drink.”

Just as Psalm11:5 said that God hates those who love violence the same could certainly be true for those who see evil and violence as their food and drink. What this verse is saying is that violence is as much a part of their life as eating and drinking is. You don’t have to look very far to see that ISIS sees violence against Christians as a normal part of their everyday life. To them, it is normal but in God’s eyes, it is despicably wicked and evil and they will have to stand before a holy God someday and give an account for their actions which is why Christians don’t get revenge. Many in the church at Rome had been brutally murdered so maybe that’s why Paul wrote “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord” (Rom 12:19).I-know-that-the-LORD

Ezekiel 8:17 “Then God said, “Son of man, do you see this? The people of Judah think my Temple is so unimportant that they will do these terrible things here in my Temple! This country is filled with violence, and they constantly do things to make me angry. Look, they are wearing rings in their noses to honor the moon as a false god!”

If this doesn’t sound like America, I don’t know what Bible verse does. This includes the idea of violence in the home; women, some men, and children being abused every day. Some being killed while others are being injured. The psychological damage is even worse when someone is abused. Physical wounds heal but the human heart is never left untouched and leaves permanent scars on the heart for the rest of their lives.

Ezekiel 7:23 “Make chains for the prisoners, because many people will be punished for killing other people. There will be violence every place in the city.”

There seems to be strong parallels between what Ezekiel saw and what we read in the papers, on the Internet, and on the TV news today. There is violence everywhere and yes, it is in “every place in the city” and in every major U.S. city. Violence sells which is why the media at times tries to incite violence by their reporting therefore the media is part of the problem with societal violence today and they have, I believe, made it worse when they should be part of the solution.

Jeremiah 6:7 “As a well keeps its water fresh, so Jerusalem keeps its wickedness fresh. I hear about the robbing and violence in this city all the time. I see nothing but pain and sickness there all the time.”

Jeremiah was seeing much of the same violence that Ezekiel had been seeing. Jeremiah puts it this way; Jerusalem keeps its wickedness fresh, meaning it is continuous. Robbing and violence, again with emphasis in the cities, was all that Jeremiah saw, and sadly, there was “nothing but pain and sickness there all the time.” No wonder Jeremiah was a weeping prophet.

Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

The day is coming when all violence will end. This means that there will be no more pain, no more suffering, no more mourning, no more crying, no more tears, and it will be the end of death. Furthermore, God promises “And the afflicted people I will save: but my eyes are upon the haughty, that you may bring them down” (2nd Sam 22:28) and “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9) for those who are still living with physical abuse and violence.

Psalm 103:6 “The LORD executes righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.”

Know this, God will make everything right someday. Ever wrong will be punished, every violent act judged, and all who are oppressed with finally be comforted. It may not come in this life but it surely is coming.

Conclusion

Many of the prophets of Israel had been beaten (like Jeremiah 20:2), tortured, some had been sawn in half; others had been stoned to death. Even if we don’t see justice today “I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor” (Psalm 140:12). Of that you can be as certain as the sun rising tomorrow.
