You may have recognized that smirking face from Top Gun: Maverick, or Hitman. But now he’s the star of the new thriller Twister…. which of course is a movie done before in 1996, only this time with King Stephen the Spielberg being the executive producer. The early reviews of the movie are very good, saying its the best action thriller of the summer, and I can only agree. It’s one of those movies that makes you grip the theater seat so hard that it leaves an impression. For 2 hours and a few minutes you are on a wild ride. Glen Powell is from Austin Texas and he suits this role of the crazy tornado chaser perfectly. The film was made in Oklahoma right in tornado alley, and yes there were a couple of tornados during some of the filming. Yes there is also a sparking of romance, with the two lead men vying for first place, and Kate, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones the female star of the film as a cracker jack meteorologist also from Oklahoma has the incredible ability to predict where the tornados are likely to go, judging from windshear among other things.
One this we would like to know is whether any of the supposed science in the movie of how to defuse a hurricane by seeding it in several ways has any basis in reality. Alas, we do not know. But this does not take away from the fun of this perfect summer popcorn movie. One word of warning, many scenes are really intense, to the point where you start ducking when the funnel cloud seems to heading towards. you. This is probably too intense for small children. Otherwise, whirl away, before this movie is gone with the wind.
