The Main Goal Of A Disciple

What’s the main goal of a disciple? Many of us claim to be disciples of Jesus, but never stop to think what it means. It’s actually very simple. Being a disciple of Jesus means a lot more than going to church each week and saying our prayers. Sure, you can’t be a good disciple without doing those things, it’s still not enough. What is the goal of a disciple?

When fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher. (Luke 6:40)

As Christians, our mission is to be transformed into other Christs. Don’t think for a minute that it’s not possible. It won’t happen with sheer willpower and determination alone and it won’t happen overnight, but it can happen. The secret is to let the Holy Spirit do his job. Invite him to come alive in you each day and then follow his lead. He’ll do the heavy lifting, but you have to cooperate with his grace. Are you willing?

Let’s pray…

Holy Spirit, I ask you to come alive in me. Even though I try to imitate Jesus, I keep messing up. I now understand that I can’t do it on my own. Please help me. Grant me the grace to think, speak and act like Jesus. When people see me, I want them to see Jesus. I pledge to do my best to cooperate with you. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
