Final Post On Wisdom

Final Post On Wisdom September 9, 2009

This concludes my miniseries on wisdom. There is much benefit to meditating carefully on these Bible verses.

13. It is sometimes wise to say nothing!

Prov 17:28 Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
Prov 29:11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.

14. Even The Wisest Man Can Act Like a Fool
Solomon turned after many foreign women and did not serve his God faithfully, and in his despair and repentance wrote Ecclesiastes.

15. Wisdom is found in Jesus

Isaiah 11:1-2 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord

Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man

Rom 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

16. Human Wisdom is a Hindrance to Salvation

Matthew 11:25 “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children”
Romans 1:22 “Claiming to be wise, they became fools”
1 Corinthians 1:18-25 “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

17. We should pray for Wisdom

Col 1:9 “we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding”

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

BUT, if we pray, we must be open to God answering that prayer thru us reading the Bible or listening to others!

CONCLUSION

Ephesians 5:15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom
James 3:13-16 “Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. . . the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere
