Hope has been proven a lie I have told myself. The history of the people and the land suggests that human history itself doesn’t bend toward justice at all. As with galaxies, with us there is an expanding Black Hole.  We may get better at making automobiles, we don’t get better at being human. This all scares me and especially for my grandsons. Read more

The hungry, homeless, unemployed, underemployed, refugees, and all destitute fellow human beings desperately need, and deserve a just and fair sharing of the wealth. But instead, most economies are designed to overwhelmingly benefit the rich while throwing crumbs to the needy and simultaneously wreaking havoc upon the earth. Read more

It is completely fine to not to be completely thankful; thankfulness is a divine thing and something which will not be complete while on earth. Jesus’s life is not one which we would characterize as a life of thankfulness. Read more

We need Lear; we need to be able to rant and rave on a blasted heath, and ask the ultimate questions about life, death, justice, and love. We need to be honest about the fact that the questions might not be answered, even if this upsets people.  Read more

There can be no compromise with an ideology that places the demands of the few above the rights of the many, that is willing to sacrifice the Other for the sake of economic security, that justifies crimes against humanity by arguing that non-citizens are undeserving of protection. Read more

Faced with the alternative of an administration that has proven itself willing to flout fundamental principles of human dignity and common decency, I believe that supporting the Democratic ticket is  the only morally responsible option this election, even for those who still think that banning abortion is the best pro-life policy. You have to look at their records and assess how the policies they have actually enacted have valued human life. And Trump’s policies and those of many of his Republican allies have repeatedly shown a reckless disregard for human life. So vote to preserve human life. Or admit that some other value drives your vote. But valuing human life does not force you to vote for Trump. Read more

Of course, maybe you are white enough, privileged enough, rich enough, so that Trump's policies don't affect you directly? Very well.  You still don't get to call yourself a feminist while supporting an administration that has gravely harmed women less privileged than yourself.  Women for Trump are not some new edgy kind of feminist. They are just the same old boring yet toxic props of a violent patriarchy.  Read more

We are now all living in the world of Donald Trump. And that world is untenable. As a result of our president, his words and his actions, we now have no common ground left as Americans. Read more

Trump’s “five-light” propaganda machine broadcasts its message 24–7. Pick any topic, e.g., COVID-19, climate change, systemic racism, the economy, foreign affairs—and Trump, his spin-jitsu-masters, and the de facto state-run media (a.k.a., Fox News) have a whole list of creative talking points to rattle off.   It’s hard to endure and persevere day after Read more
