Trump Is Such a Big Liar About COVID-19

Trump Is Such a Big Liar About COVID-19 July 19, 2020

Several fact checkers agree with The Washington Post and The New York Times saying Donald Trump, during his 3.5 year presidency, has outright lied or made misleading, public statements over 20,000 times. The Ninth of the Bible’s Ten Commandments says, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20.16; cf. Deuteronomy 5.20 NRSV). Donald Trump has to be the most lying president this nation could have ever imagined before he came along. He is truly FAKE NEWS.

President Donald Trump and his minions recently pranced from the White House across Laffayette Square to do a photo-op in front of a St. John’s Church, in which Trump held up a Bible and posed for pictures. It was such a hypocrisy and a degradation in using the sacred book as a political stunt in the midst of demonstrations going on all over the country against racism and police brutality against minorities, especially African Americans.

Trump has lied about this coronavirus over and over. Today, in an interview by Fox News anchor reporter Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” President Trump said the U.S. has “the lowest mortality rate” from this coronavirus pandemic names COVID-19 of any nation. It was not a slip of the tongue. In recent weeks, President Trump has said numerous times in public that the U.S. has “the lowest” or “one of the lowest” mortality rates from COVID-19 of any nation.

Chris Wallace pushed back, saying to President Trump, “Sir, we have the seventh highest mortality rate in the world. Our mortality rate is higher than Brazil, it’s higher than Russia and the European Union has us on a travel ban.”

The president replied that he believed it was “I think it’s the opposite. I think we have one of the lowest mortality rates in the world.”

Wallace shot back, “That’s not true, sir. We had 900 deaths on a single day.”

Trump then said Wallace should do some fact checking. Then he insisted Wallace was wrong and accused him of being “fake news.”

Wallace stayed firm, saying he did not believe he was “fake news.”

Trump then said, “You said we had the worst mortality rate in the world … and we have the best.”

Donald Trump claims to be “an extremely stable genius,” but he can be like talking to someone with an IQ of less than 50, in which he really believes his lies. Or, he always knows he’s lying, but he thinks enough people are so stupid that they will believe whatever lies he tells us. The latter is how I see him and his political base. If so, Donald Trump is both a fraud and con man, as many have alleged.

John Hopkins University is the leading institution in the U.S. that tracks data about COVID-19 both in the U.S. and the world. And it updates its data every day. Today, John Hopkins University released the numbers up to today as follows: the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the world was 14,394,056, and 3,760,327 of these were in the U.S. In crunching those numbers, that means the U.S. has had 26% of all people in the world who have tested positive for COVID-19. President Trump often says that number is quite false because the U.S. tests for COVID-19 way more than other nations do. That is quite wrong.

But let’s just consider the deaths. To me, that’s the acid test. John Hopkins University says that up to today, 603,679 people worldwide have died due to COVID-19, and 140,466 of these have been U.S. citizens. In crunching these numbers by dividing the latter into the former, which is merely about 4th grade mathematics, the U.S. has 23+% of the total fatalities in the world who have succumbed to COVID-19. Yet the U.S. has only 4.5% of the world’s population. That means the U.S. has over five times more COVID-19 deaths than the average nation in the world.

Sometimes, I don’t know if Donald Trump can genuinely add two and two and get four. Most of the time, I think he knows the right answer is four, but he knows there are enough stupid people out there who will believe him if says two plus two are five, so that’s what he tells them. Either way, it is not Chris Wallace or anyone who disagrees with Trump who is fake news, it’s Donald Trump who is constantly FAKE NEWS.
